It's a comprehensive index of journal articles and conference papers, covering all subjects: science, medicine, engineering, business, law, finance, humanities and the arts. The majority of requests are received via automated methods. The main automated order channels are:

· ARTTel : Command driven, with informative screens, ARTTel gives immediate access to the automated request processing systems. On-line help is available. You can reach ARTTel through direct dial, Telnet to arttel.bl.uk or X.25.
· ARTEmail: To access ARTEmail you need an electronic mail system with Internet access. Files of requests can be sent to BLDSC using this method, and confirmation of receipt will be returned in the same manner.
· ARTWeb: Registered customers use the Web document order. The order form simplifies the requesting process; there is no need to worry about formatting your request. For use of this method go to the Order Documents Online page of the BL website.

The use of Ariel® for Windows®, a method of sending and receiving documents electronically is preferred over fax delivery. Faster and clearer than a fax, Ariel stands up to difficult text, from Asian scripts to mathematical equations, and handles detailed images, from Elizabethan woodcuts to NASA photos.

That's why, since 1991, Ariel has set the standard at libraries-where superior document transmission is vital. IScientia is the authorized Benelux partner for RLG/Ariel.

In certain situations and for certain categories of customer, the British Library will charge a copyright fee in addition to the copying charge. This is due to a combination of international copyright law and the license agreement between the BLDSC and the UK Copyright Licensing Agency. These copyrights are set by publishers and vary with the publication and the data it was published. All copyright fees are passed to the UK Copyright Licensing Agency for worldwide distribution to publishers and other right holders.
