Micromedex announces disease content for clinicians (06/09/01)
GREENWOOD VILLAGE, Colo., September 6, 2001 - MICROMEDEX, a division of The Thomson Corporation (TSE:TOC), announced today an agreement to license disease information from Praxis Press Inc. This information will include databases and tools that deliver quick, targeted answers to aid in the diagnosis and treatment of diseases.
"MICROMEDEX is eager to provide customers with first class disease content to accompany our drug and toxicology information they have grown to trust," said Rick Noble, Chief Operating Officer for Thomson Healthcare. "Our goal is to make quality disease information accessible to physicians and other hospital-based clinicians. By providing drug, disease, toxicology and other clinical information all in one application, clinicians have one interface to learn, and only one place to remember to go for the clinical information they need."
MICROMEDEX will incorporate the disease information into their existing Healthcare Series, currently offered on CDs for network and Intranet distribution, the Internet, and hand-held devices. The first phase of this new product will be available by the first quarter of 2002.
According to the most recent Institute of Medicine Report, providing clinicians with synthesized medical evidence and identification of best practices is crucial to reduce errors and improve patient safety. Best Practice of Medicine, the physician reference developed by Praxis Press Inc., was created specifically to meet those needs.
"We believe the relationship with MICROMEDEX will greatly expand the reach of our offering," said Sarah Greene, President/Chief Executive Officer of Praxis Press Inc. "Incorporating our reference into the Healthcare Series will provide hospital-based physicians and other clinicians access to authoritative, evidence-based, and up-to-date recommendations about conditions they encounter. The MICROMEDEX/Praxis Press combination will result in a single entry point to a wealth of drug, disease and toxicology information."
